A Recap Of Lost Time

The two of them wonder outside well after midnight.
Neither of them desiring sleep quite yet.

Small red glows illuminate their faces for moments at a time.
Only long enough to notice the importance of expressions.

Far away street lights in an empty field silhouette them against the woods as the trees sway and crack quietly.

"So what has happened during the year I've been gone," one asks.

"Just let me finish," the other says, " This is all still very epic to me."

Stars twinkle above their conversation, their eyes stare out into the darkness and into the heavens, dew covers the ground and makes every alternative sitting position a bit damp.

Hearts are emptied, truth is spoken, compassion is shown, brothers fight for the others heart.

From time to time a far off dog bark or tire's squeal brings conversation to a stop.

Clouds blanket the heavens then recede as the heavens aren't tired yet.

And these two boys, who are in the refinement process of manhood, breath deep the morning air as they talk to their Father of broken compasses left at sea and shattered anchors left in the murky depths. Of the need for courage, for boldness, for direction.

And in those few hours under the Carolina sky, with their feet hanging over the dew laden grass, the distance that a year created is reduced to a memory.

A memory that holds no sway.
